A Message From Mother TJ

Here’s another terrific sign that we are emerging from our long pandemic stasis: After more than two years on hold, our diocese will finally seat Bishop Mark as the Eighth Bishop of Lexington! This is a joyous event for the entire diocese that takes place in the context of worship. Our two new Canons, The Rev. Cn. Amy Chambers Cortright (Canon to the Ordinary) and The

Rev. Cn. George Iype Kovoor (Canon Missioner), will be collated at this service as well.

All faith communities are encouraged to attend this joyous event at Christ Church Cathedral at 4:00 pm on June 5, which will also be the Sunday of Pentecost. Wear red for the Holy Spirit!

Bishop Mark wants this to be a true diocesan celebration that fills the cathedral. Churches are invited to bring their banners for the procession (along with the floor stand). A reception will immediately follow the service. All are welcome!

Look for a flyer in your Sunday bulletin or call Calvary’s office. Those attending should register in advance.

Dates and events of note:

  • Calvary will hold a memorial service for Patsy Cochran, who died last November, this coming Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 A.M. A reception will follow in our parish hall.
  • On Sunday, May 15, following worship, David Stewart will offer a training for new ushers and refresher for those already serving as ushers. Take a few moments to greet friends and grab some refreshment, and then meet him back in the nave. Veteran ushers are asked to take the refresher.
  • My final meeting with our vestry will also follow our service on May 15, again, after members have a few minutes of fellowship. We’ll meet in St. Mary’s.
  • We’re also planning a special leavetaking service on Sunday, May 22, at 3 P.M. with Bishop Mark attending. We will still have our customary 10 AM service as well. I encourage you to attend both. Our normal coffee hour will follow the first service, and a reception will follow the second.

A number of spots are open for folks to purchase altar flowers in honor or memory of someone. See the chart outside the nave.

Canon Amy Cortright will preach and preside at the Holy Eucharist at Calvary on May 29, after which she will meet with the vestry to discuss steps forward in Calvary’s life.

Finally, I would so appreciate it if you would bring to the church any clean boxes you have sitting around your house, especially smaller ones suitable for books. I am running short for packing!

Alleluia! Christ is risen!
