Your staff and leaders and I are busy these days working to ensure as smooth a transition into an interim period as possible for Calvary. You would be so proud to see them asking questions, making provisions, and finding out information about navigating the time between my departure and the eventual joyous welcome of a new rector.
We all are also maintaining the current administrative, care, and other ministries of Calvary:
- Calvary will hold a memorial service for Patsy Cochran, who died last November, on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 A.M. A reception will follow in our parish hall.
- On Sunday, May 15, following worship, David Stewart will offer a training for new ushers and refresher for those already serving as ushers. Take a few moments to greet friends and grab some refreshment, and then meet him back in the nave. Veteran ushers are asked to take the refresher.
- My final meeting with our vestry will also follow our service on May 15, again, after members have a few minutes of fellowship. We’ll meet in St. Mary’s.
- We’re also planning a special leavetaking service on Sunday, May 22, at 3 P.M. with Bishop Mark and possibly Canon Amy attending. We will still have our customary 10 AM service as well. I encourage you to attend both. Our normal coffee hour will follow the first service, and a reception will follow the later.
Congratulations to Cade Mahan, who began work this week as General Manager of Fat Patty’s across the street! With his customary energy, he’s hit the ground running while continuing lighter duties with us at Cavalry. He won’t be able to do this much longer, so we’re again heating up the search for a permanent sexton. Please recommend to Senior Warden Liz Alexander anyone you think might be interested and able.
A number of spots are open for folks to purchase altar flowers in honor or memory of someone. See the chart outside the nave.
Canon Amy Cortright will preach and preside at the Holy Eucharist at Calvary on May 29, after which she will meet with the vestry to discuss steps forward. You could not be in more competent hands!
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
