Dear Friends,
The Episcopal Church’s Presiding Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Michael Curry, made big news last weekend giving the sermon for the wedding of Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle. To a crowd many of us might have found a bit overly dignified, he preached in his customarily exuberant cadences of the love of God.
“Imagine governments and nations where love is the way,” he preached. “Imagine this tired old world when love is the way – when love is the way, unselfish, sacrificial, redemptive! … When love is the way, poverty will become history.”
Two billion people are believed to have tuned in! That’s a lot of exposure for a denomination that numbers fewer than two million souls. And Bishop Curry emerged a rock star! One online article reported that “Forty thousand people a minute tweeted about his rousing address, with the sermon the most talked about subject online during the whole royal wedding.”
I encourage you to listen and/or read Bishop Curry’s sermon. You may find the video and full text here, and a video interview from The View here (with a very funny clip from Saturday Night Live!). The sermon will become another reason that you love being an Episcopalian!
Wishing you every blessing,
Mtr. TJ
