Dear Friends,
Tuesday evening’s Blue Christmas worship service offered a quiet celebration of the birth of Jesus for folks experiencing grief, loss, or other sadness at this time of year when there is so much pressure to appear happy.
Soft lighting and gentle music provided an environment in which those attending were able to acknowledge their sadness within the hope given to us by the Incarnation. Eight prayer ministers provided an opportunity for individuals to receive personal prayer, and nearly all those present came forward to light a candle to add to a sandbox – a giving over of their pain to Jesus’ care.
Afterward, several of those from Calvary who helped to provide the liturgy shared that they, too, were moved to a place of deeper peace and joy. It is so often the case that people who minister receive as much as, or even more than, they offer to others.
Many thanks to all of those ministers – Carol Greene and our choir; those who offered prayer, ushering, preparations, and photography; deacons and readers – who provided an oasis of loveliness and healing for those whose landscape is now full of stones.
Wishing you every blessing,
Mtr. TJ
