121st Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington

 Dear Friends,
The 121st Convention of the Diocese of Lexington is scheduled for February 25 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Lexington. Yesterday evening, four of Calvary’s deputies met at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Morehead for a pre-convention hearing. At these hearings, held in various locations around the diocese, deputies have an opportunity to learn and discuss the business of the diocese, including changes to the canons (laws), resolutions for action as a diocese, the annual budget, and the election of lay and clergy representatives to a number of committees. The hearings prepare deputies to carry out their primaryDiocese of Lexington Arms responsibility at the actual convention: voting in the elections and for/against resolutions.
Not all members of committees in the diocese are elected; some are appointed by the bishop. I have accepted appointment to the Committee on Canons, a standing committee of the diocese. This means that I will be part of a group that meets periodically to consider changes and clarifications to our diocesan canons and to craft the new language.
Deputies for this year’s convention are Calvary’s three clergy, and lay deputies Carrie Crowe, Carol Greene, Izak McKenzie, and Nancy Ross. Please hold our deputation and the diocese in prayer as we prepare to gather. Much conversation is likely to center around our transition time and the calling of a new bishop, a process that some expect will take about 18 months.
Wishing you every blessing,
Mtr. TJ
