How good it was to see so many of you back in the pews last Sunday! It was a great day of celebrating our children, welcoming back our choir, blessing our pledges for Blessings in a Backpack, and inaugurating a new year of worship, learning, service, and fellowship. Thanks to Cade Mahan, who provided a Mexican feast, and to Miss Debbie for her preparation of our kids for participation in worship!
I’ve had conversations this week with several of you who said that it was good to be back. That’s the way it is. Regular worship in church is a discipline commanded not for God’s benefit, but for ours. We all have a quite normal tendency to get so caught up in the demands of daily life that we drift away from what is, for every Christian, the very center of our lives: God, in three glorious Persons, with whom we work to bring about the new kingdom on earth. Before we know it, we’re remembering our faith only when trouble strikes.
I ask you to make the holy commitment to show up regularly on Sundays. It is in this way that we practice community in the way Jesus taught. In the bargain, we keep ourselves close to our source of faith and life: Jesus Christ.
Wishing you every blessing,
Mtr. TJ
