Dear Friends,
Here is a portion of the first post from General Convention, beginning formally today in Austin, TX, offered on July 3 by The Rev. Canon Elise Johnstone:
It is a blessing to represent the Diocese of Lexington to the wider Episcopal Church. It is one of the major ways that we continue to be connected as the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement. We are looking forward to hearing tomorrow from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and the President of the House of Deputies, Gay Jennings, as we are oriented to our work; and we as the Lexington deputation will gather for hot dogs and celebrate Independence Day for a bit as well!
Your Lexington deputation is comprised of Elise Johnstone , chair, Mary T Yeiser (Emmauel, Winchester), Laurie Brock (St. Michael’s, Lexington), Dave Sevigny (St. Raphael’s, Lexington),
Amy Meaux (Trinity, Danville), Ann Davis McClain (St. Peter’s, Paris), Peter Doddema (St. Philip’s, Harrodsburg), and Jim Ware (Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington). Our first alternates are Keila Thomas (St. Alban’s, Morehead) and Holli Powell (Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington).
We will offer a General Convention reflection every day through July 13 and we hope to offer a special Diocese of Lexington perspective on our goings-on here at convention.
As a closing, I share with you this prayer from our Book of Common Prayer :
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel in the General Convention for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Wishing you every blessing,
Mtr. TJ
