Dear Calvary Family,
The Neighborhood is an organization that provides many valuable services under one roof at 2516 Carter Avenue in Ashland to those individuals and families in need.
Services are provided by CAReS, The Dressing Room, Ashland Community Kitchen, and Clean Start.
CAReS – provides housing referrals to local shelters and available housing units, utility and rent assistance which can pay $25-$50 on a utility bill or rent once every 12 months (other requirements apply.) Those meeting requirements may be assigned to a food pantry which allows them to receive commodity food once a month. In addition, prescription assistance is available once every three months. Birth certificates and ID cards are available for Neighborhood card holders. Baby care items are available once every three months.
THE DRESSING ROOM – open from 10 a.m. – noon and 1-3 p.m. M-F. They provide clothing and miscellaneous household items at no cost to individuals and families. There are weekly and yearly limits.
ASHLAND COMMUNITY KITCHEN – formerly at Calvary Church for over 25 years. They serve lunch M-F 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and supper Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. They also provide meals for the Ashland Meals on Wheels program.
CLEAN START – open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. providing individuals with shower facilities, haircuts, and mailboxes. This is a cooperative ministry of the local Presbyterian churches.
Many of your neighbors or people on fixed incomes such as the elderly, handicapped, or folks facing life challenges may be eligible for these services.
TRANSPORTATION – another service available in the Ashland area provides the community with four Ashland city bus routes operating M-F from about 7:00 am until 6 pm. There are schedules and information available by calling 606-327-2025.
In Ashland, City Paratransit Service is available to those who qualify from home to their destination again Monday – Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. The handicapped vehicles will take you to local doctors, shopping centers, hospitals and just about anywhere from where you live locally. Riders must meet basic qualifications. More information and applications are available by calling 606-327-2025.
