A Message From Father Jon

Dear Calvary friends in Christ,

What a glorious time we had together this last Sunday! It all started for me with a beautiful morning. Then just before the 8a.m. service I walked out to our front corner and saw the most gorgeous irises I think I have ever seen. A large patch of tall white flowers and another equally healthy patch of yellow ones. Please look if you get the chance before they are gone!

I was told that the irises this year are the largest they have ever been. The difference as to why they are bigger this year? Miracle-Gro!

I thought about this a little more and thought how apropos these flowers are planted out front near the old church sign on the corner of our campus. In a way they are our sign too. They show anybody driving on Winchester Ave. that Calvary is growing! As one parishioner put it, “Calvary is opening up and blooming!”

Like those irises growing healthier and with larger blooms this year we have our own nourishment at Calvary. Our Miracle-Gro comes in the form of fellowship, formation, and worship. Our Miracle-Gro is God inspiring us to make a difference in our community through outreach. Our Miracle-Gro is whenever someone looking for a church finds us and calls us “home” because someone invited them to Calvary. May we continue to open, grow, and be God’s beautiful sign wherever we go!

The secret to the most beautiful blooms relates to what is feeding us at the roots. If you find your self spiritually hungry from time to time and/or looking for a place to express gratitude for all that God has done, then I know a place that has spiritual Miracle-Gro regularly. Please come check out the garden at Calvary both outside and inside!

Blessings, Fr. Jon
