A Message From Father Jon

One of the things I enjoy about Ashland is getting to know my pastor colleagues in the area. There are several mainline denominations, a few nondenominational groups, and various ministry related agencies represented in our monthly AAMA (Ashland Area Ministerial Association) meetings. Calvary has participated in the AAMA for many years now and everyone has been welcoming me as part of the team and as the “new guy.” I have participated in Ministerial Associations in other cities, and I must say that this one is by far the most active. I appreciate experiencing the wider community through their experience and I have enjoyed worshipping together at our Community Lenten Wednesday noon services.

This Saturday at 1p.m. (rain or shine) the AAMA is sponsoring an incredibly special opportunity to worship together at Central Park. There will be outer sections of the park reserved for us to walk a local version of the Via Dolorosa. There will be 14 Stations of the Cross to pray and reflect upon. I have heard that the actual markers for the stations that we will be using are from Jerusalem. I am looking forward to seeing each depiction as they map out the journey Jesus made to the cross.

We will meet at 1p.m. at the intersection of Chuck Woolery Dr. and Chattin Dr. just inside the park.

I hope you can participate in this community-wide experience as we draw nearer to Holy Week.     Invite someone and I will see you there!

Blessings, Fr. Jon

P.S.

We are still using the following protocol for parking. Here are the two closest parking options as of 3-12-24:

  1. Use Carter Ave. to park in the lot directly across the street from the front of Calvary and next to The Paramount Arts Center.
  2. Take the alleyway off 15th St., behind the Delta Hotel, and park in the Free Public Parking lot.

*Please know that access issues will exist for the next few weeks. Those with walkers or wheelchairs Dcn. Tina or I will be glad to bring you communion if you cannot come to worship. We have a transport chair available if needed.

Blessings, Fr. Jon
