Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
As we come to the end of another church year, I cannot help but look back at all that has happened. As Covid cases began to fall, we found ourselves being able to some degree to meet safely in person again. Initially it was awkward seeing only eyes and waving rather than physical contact with those who are so much of our life of the church. Depending upon which community I was serving, a few began receiving wine again although it felt like using the individual cups was more divisive and certainly took away from the symbolism of unity with the shared cup. In some communities, this was the first Easter celebrated together in over a year. Here at Calvary, you learned of the leave taking of Mother T.J. Moving into a time of uncertainty after many years of growing stability. As so often though, God provided the gifts you needed to move on. In late June I was approached by the bishop asking if I might be willing to serve as the Interim Rector here at Calvary. Mid July brought that to fruition. It was a big step for me and many of our mountain congregations as that tool me out of the rotation to celebrate on Sundays. It also meant that I would drastically reduce my role at Christ Church Harlan and St. Timothy’s. It is working out though. November came in with the Rector search and nominating committee running full steam and your fall stewardship pride culminating in your Consecration Sunday this past weekend. We have been blessed to have Canon Amy guide the committee through the process and look forward to her continued aid as we receive the information from your surveys, if you have not competed yours, please do this week. December will bring us the results and you will continue to update your website and other information for the rector search. On December 11th., Bishop Van Koevering will be with us for his annual visitation and Confirmation and Reception, and then it is on to Christmas. I’m excited about 2023 and all that lies ahead. On Thursday, one thing I will be thankful for is the opportunity to be with you as Calvary enters this next phase of its life celebrating Jesus and brining the Good News to Ashland and beyond.
Peace,
Bryant+
