About Calvary
Calvary is a beautiful historic building in the heart of Ashland’s downtown, with a fully active and engaged congregation in this community. Our parish deeply values its ability to include all who come through our doors. Our congregation represents people from a diverse background of faiths and beliefs. Some are lifelong Episcopalians, while others have come from different traditions to find a home at Calvary. We proudly respect our differences, possessing a common desire for intellectual spirituality with zeal for the glory of traditional liturgy. The last ten years at Calvary have been characterized by a sense of growth and renewal found in new ministries, community volunteer opportunities, and thriving fellowship for all ages.
These ministries include things like Bags of Love, Java and Journey, Meet to Eat, and Hunger Knows No Holiday. We also provide a thriving Vacation Bible School in the summer and have seen substantial growth after creating a new position dedicated to our Episcopal Youth Community . We are blessed with congregational leadership who step up and out into our community to volunteer and guide initiatives and outreach. Our downtown location affords us the opportunity to provide positive Christian witness to our area. We are eager to discover new ways to minister with and in our community and help secure the future growth of Calvary in the process.
HONEST AREAS OF GROWTH
Reflecting on our rich past and looking towards our bright future, Calvary has identified areas of growth which includes strengthening the pastoral response of the church when serving people in times of emotional, physical, and spiritual need. We hope to build our Vestry and governance into a larger and more diverse group of lay leaders. Calvary has also identified the desire to lead intentionally towards attracting new membership and incorporate them into the life of our church. We appreciate the need to make necessary changes to attract families, but also understand that change can be a struggle at times. As is often found in a faith based communal group, Calvary places great value on stability, but we recognize that we also may struggle with having the flexibility to change and grow.
