Calvary has a history of great music to support the worship of the church.
The adult choir sings a variety of traditional and modern anthems and leads the congregation in singing hymns and service music. They also provide special music during the Easter and Christmas seasons. High school students and adults are welcome to join. Rehearsals are Wednesday at 7:00 in the church choir room. While the church does not have a children’s choir at this time, Sunday school children present special music for holidays and youth services. The church also has a bell choir that performs on special occasions.
The church also offers scholarships to Ashland Community and Technical College students who sing in the choir. Interested students should contact Carol Greene or the church office for additional information. Click HERE for a description of the Choral Scholars Program and an application form.
The church also has a fine Moller pipe organ built in 1948 and completely refurbished in the 1980s.

Calvary Choir Scholars
The Choir Scholarship program of Calvary Episcopal Church is created to encourage and perpetuate the spirit and art of church music, support the educational needs of area youth, and enrich the worship at Calvary Church.
Choir Scholars will sing with the Calvary Adult Choir at all services during the school year. Fall semester Scholars are required to sing for Christmas Eve. Spring Scholars are expected to sing for Holy Week services. Scholars are required to attend rehearsals on Wednesday evening and special called rehearsals at other times. While occasional absences may be requested and approved (usually not more than one or two a semester), Christmas, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Week/Easter services are required. The choir sings a variety of service music and anthems ranging from Anglican chant and classical anthems to contemporary praise music.
Sunday choir practice is usually one hour before the start time of the morning service. Wednesday rehearsal is at 7:00 P.M. until approximately 9:00.
Award is tuition for up to nine credit hours at Ashland Community and Technical College. Payment will be made directly to the College.
Selection of participants:
Participants must be students in good standing at Ashland Community and Technical College. Selection will be based on vocal ability. The individuals do not need to be “soloists” but should have musical ability needed to sing with a choral group. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, dependability and a spirit of cooperation are essential. The needs of the choir for a particular voice range (i.e. soprano, alto, tenor, or bass) will be a factor in the selection process. These needs may vary from year to year. An audition is required. The scholarship is not limited to Episcopalians and individuals of all faiths are encouraged to apply. A committee consisting of the choir director, one or two choir members and/or members of the congregation will make selection of scholars. Decision of the committee, with approval by the Rector of Calvary Church, is final.
Audition:
Please bring a solo or hymn to sing for us. This does not need to be “church music.” We will also ask you to sing hymns and/or anthems with other choir members.
Continuing Scholarships
Choir scholars will be reviewed each semester. Continuance in the program depends on regular attendance, cooperative spirit, acceptable quality of performance, and academic standing, and availability of funds in the Calvary Scholarship Fund.
